Diplomacy

This here is my buddy, Lady. She's a sweet little goober girl of the Cocker Spaniel variety.

She doesn't look like she's built for speed, but she can run like the wind when she wants to.

Sometimes she is Stella's walking partner, but sometimes she's mine. (I have to tell you that she's a LOT easier to walk with than Stella is. Lady's not bossy like Stella.) When she & I walk together we like to round out our time with some chasin' & sniffin' in the backyard.

We're just sniffin' here, but we kind of look like we're ready to rumble.

Because she's so short I eventually give in and allow her easy access. It's gonna happen anyway so why not?

When our tongues are hanging like this, it means our booties are dragging and it's time to hydrate!

Lady finally turned to my girl and said exactly what I was thinking, "Are you gonna snap photos all day or get us some WATER, woman?!" Of course, lady says it more sweetly and with a smile on her face.

Just so you know, when Lady comes over it's like having a major summit negotiation at the U.N. Merv, my catbro, used to live with Lady until Lady started sleeping in his litter boxes and moving all of her toys into them. (A cat will never look at you as anything but his sworn enemy after that.) So, we have to keep our promise to Merv that he'll never have to deal with Lady again. When she comes over, we squirrel Merv away in his lair so he doesn't have any flashbacks of the old days. Just watching out for my Merv.

Love,
Stanley

She's a Lady

I think Tom Jones said it best in his song, "She's a Lady". This here is my buddy, Lady. And I thought she was MINE... until my little sissy stole her right out from under me!

It seems that the two of them have become walking partners. My girl walks Stella up to Lady's house, then walks them both back to our house, where they get to run around like crazy pups in the backyard before my girl whisks Lady back to her own house. Look at the two of them... thick as thieves!

I am showing Stella the agony I feel over the loss of my buddy, and dance instructor, Lady.

But, Stella assured me that she has no intention of stealing Lady. She wouldn't mind if we could share her, though. I took a moment to consider that option.

Then Lady made it clear that I am still one of her fave goobs...

and it was back to business as usual!

Stella even instigated a little 3-way chase game for us. She's not such an annoying sissy after all.

Hope you all had a great weekend,

Stanley

Pee Ess

My buddy, Neko the AireGirl, is having surgery to remove a disc in her back on Tuesday. Please be sending her some good vibes and whatever else you'd like to help get her through it all. I'm sure she'd love to meet you if you don't know her yet.

StellaFest Part 1

WooHoo, puparoonies! It's my birthday, and I've already been celebrating for 3 days! We decided to get the party rolling by breaking out our pool. Here, Hairy Stanley is instructing me on the finer points of swimming.

He said that head dunking and bubble blowing are what all Olympic level swimmers do.

If only my hairy beast of a bruzzer would let me actually get into the pool I could try it out for myself.

He said I had to wait until he drip dried and got out before I could get in.

Ahhhh. Alone at last in MY pool.

I remained ever vigilant, scanning the horizon for possible threats to our good time, even while I was enjoying my swim.

Then my buddy, Lady Bug, arrived and I went to the gate to greet her.

Like any good hostess and birthday girl, I introduced her to MY pool and invited her for a swim.

Lady, however, is not fond of swimming, so we found other ways to amuse ourselves.

She wasn't too interested in being my friend at first, but she's slowly coming around.

And now, let me show you my FAVE place in the backyard... MY hammock!

It's like a giant puppy swing, and sometimes I even let my girl ride with me.

It's also a great place to take a snooze after some good swimming.

Here's a little video excerpt of what Stanley calls my "Hammock Dance". I think it's more like surfing than dancing, but whatever. (Ignore the pastey white legs in the vid ~ they're not important.)

Now, let's compare photos. Here's one of the first photos ever taken of me back in September when I was rescued with my brothers from the hog farm puppy mill in Florida.

And, here's a photo of me on my birthday with my new "mature" haircut. (I'm missing my puppy 'fro curls.)

So much has happened to me in just one year! I went from living with four itty bitty bruzzers to living with one giant hairy goober bruzzer. I went from a tiny crate on a hog farm in Florida to my princess bed in GooberStan. And I went from having no friends to having all of YOU! I'd say it's been a really good year!

Special love & goobery smooches to all the people at Florida Terrier Rescue, and especially to my foster mama, Kathleen, and Miss Lynn the Terrier whisperer, who taught me how to be a dog and to get along with hoomans!

I'll post the poems and cards I've already received in StellaFest Part 2! I can't wait to show you!

Happy Birthday to ME and my 4 Lakie bruzzers, and goobery love to all of YOU,

A very happy & grateful Stella

Stanley, on Stanley

Since inquiring minds want to know, here's me, expounding on me. Enjoy.

1. Your age? 1 year and 2 months

2. Your age when came to live with your people? 10 months

3. What color is the collar you’re wearing right now? black, red & white swirlies

4. Who is your favorite person other than the people you live with? My Darla Girl

5. How much do you weigh? 80 lbs of pure gooberosity

6. Most expensive thing you’ve ever chewed up? bamboo Roman shades - Pulled them right off the windows when my girl booby-trapped ZZ's crate so I couldn't break him out to play.

7. Do you like other Dogs? Yep! Yep! Yep! Although, I usually don't notice if they don't like me (imagine THAT). I assume they'll eventually come around once they get the full goober experience that is Stanley.

8. Who is your best non-human friend? ZZ my foster Airebrother. My friend, Lady, is a close second.

9. Squeaky Toys or Tennis Balls? Squeakies closely edge out tennis balls - I use squeakies to annoy my cat, Merv.

10. Do you like to be brushed? nope

11. Peanut Butter or Cheese? both, anytime

12. Do your people cut your toenails? I'm too wiggly so the vet has to do it.

13. Any formal education? I too am a home-schooled pup (my girl is teaching me to walk on the leach [leash], to swim, and to have good manners, whatever those are, when I meet new hoomans. She's threatening to sign us up for an obedience class. Don't ask - more later).

14. Couch potato or Energizer Bunny? Depends... I run like the wind and I love my stuffies very athletically, then I fall over and I'm out for the count.

15. Five nicknames your people call you. Goober, Stanman, Stanley Boy, Punk, and of course, Goober Stan.

16. What is your best trick? Getting my girl to still laugh at me even though I've destroyed her living room. (Ask me later about this - see #13).

17. Do you like kitties? I love my Merv, most fervently. Alas, he does not return the sentiment. (*sigh*) Yet.

18. What did you have for breakfast? Kibble and a nana (banana)

19. Can you hunt (aka have you ever killed anything living)? A pink flamingo (hooman girl: it was a plastic pink flamingo)

20. When & why was the last time you went to the V.E.T.? The week after my girl adopted me (about 4 months ago) - for the full work up and some shots. I was fine until they started touching my paws. Then I hugged my girl for dear life! (My paws are a wee bit ticklish).

21. Where do you sleep at night? My girl would like me to sleep with her, but I am too much of a bed buffalo (I roam). So, I sleep on my bed in the living room or on the couch.

22. Do you like to swim? I love to wade up to my neck in water. I'm actually having my first swim lesson today.

23. Can you make puppies? What ingredients do you need for that? (hooman girl here: Nope. He lost his boy bits just before he came to live with me. Wouldn't know it, though.)

24. Do you give kisses? I am selective about kisses. Other dogs get plenty of goober kisses. As for hoomans, my love and enthusiasm gets spread to anyone who notices me, but kisses are for those who please me most.

25. Can you potty on command? Not so much. I go when I like, thanks. Although, I have finally learned it's okay to go when attached to the leach (leash) and when people are watching me.

26. To Cuz or not to Cuz? The closest I've been to a Cuz was in Petsmart. I have insufficient information to answer this question at this time.

If you haven't done this MEME game yet, just copy the questions and paste them into your blog. No fact is too small or too pawsonal.
Thanks, Penny, for starting the game. We love ya, girl!

Love,
Stanley

Lady Bug - Dancing Queen

I had a blast this weekend with ZZ! We topped all of our round-the-clock playtime with a meeting of the Airedales at my fave pup park. I'm too pooped to write much about it now (and my girl forgot her camera). Mostly, I have been doing a lot of this...

and this...

and this...

while ZZ has been doing this.

There is really only one of my buddies who could motivate me enough to get my dragging puppy butt out of bed, and that's my gal pal, Lady. (Notice the little devil hair horns on top of her head - hehehe).

My nickname for her is Lady BUG because she loves to eat bugs, and she can be a bit of a pest sometimes. That said, she is a very sweet girlie! Her mom always says, "She's not very bright, but she sure is sweet." Let me tell you, folks, Lady has her mom and practically everyone else completely fooled. Everyone around here may think she is a doofy clueless pup, but she only acts that way, she says, so noone will ever expect very much out of her. Actually she is a Roads Scholar (knows every street in town) and can be quite clever IF she wants to.

If Lady comes over it usually means one of two things: she's either a) snooping around my personal life, or b) giving me my dance lesson. I'm absolutely CRAZY about dancing, so of course, the prospect of a little free dance lesson from Lady got me out into the yard.

First, she just HAD to meet ZZ.

Once they established that she's WAY BOSSY, and that he wasn't up for a dance lesson, she and I took a lap around the yard to warm up.

Then she showed me a new warm-up stretch.

Then it was time for my lesson. On today's agenda - breakdancing. (Notice how she plays to the camera just before she goes into her moon walk).

After that, she went all country on me and tried to show me the Booty Scootin' Boogie.

At that point I pretty much lost interest in the lesson and moved on to bigger and better things. She knows I hate country ...

Dancing tall & carrying a big stick,

Love,

Stanley
