A couple of mornings ago our girl found Stella & I totally transfixed with this corner of our yard.
We were mesmerized... practially hypnotized.
Before moving in for a closer look, I checked to see if the coast was clear.
Then we dove in snout first, so to speak.
My girl said it's called a turtle. He just looked like a decorative box to me. (Our girl's shoe is in there to show the scale of this thing.)
We weren't convinced anyone was home in there, but we did our best to invite him to play.
Licking on that box made the goober juices really flow. I had to shake it off before I could head back inside. (My ears in motion totally look like wings.)
MUCH better.
Goober love,
Stanley

That is an ornate box turtle. Pretty.
Well, we gots toads in our back yard, and you gots turtles. Yours are much prettier than ours. Teka is working on eugenic population control with the toads. If they are too slow to get away, they don't deserve to live. Her theory, anyway.

We've met a Painter turtle before but never a box turtle! Did he ever come out and say hi to you?!
Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch
Gooberstan is full of so many interesting and mysterious characters. I'm glad that turtle didn't snap your snout.

I've never seen a turtle...but I'm sure I'd think it was a rock. You're very smart Stanny.

Woe, Stanley, those ears are really moving....I bet you could try and fly with those things. My mum wants to scratch your ears for some reason. Turtles! We have turtles in our lagoon. I am with you, I don't think anything really lives inside that box, cuz they never come out to play or anything.
Big Paw Hugs to you and Stella and your family.

You've practically got yourself a pair of cocker spaniel ears!
I bet if you wait all sneaky-like then that box will get up and move on its own!
A turtle?! wow, we have frogs and rabbits that come in our yard, but no turtles, how wild.

I love your flying ears! Pawsome!
All I have at my house is a boring bunny who lives under my deck. The painted box is MUCH prettier.
Stella, I'm so sad because the collar you sent me is making my neck red and making me itch so Motch took it off. She's going to try to find another one like it, but maybe a little narrower, because she thinks my neck is small for the collar.
What does she know, anyway?
Peanut knows all about turtles. You can ask him anything. He will have the answer. I don't think you are suppose to kiss them. That is turtle slime.
Watch out! Sometimes those turtle things bit you.
I'm loving the ear flapping. Maybe with enough mousse you could get them to stay that way for Halloween.
Slobbers,
Mango
Stanley, you are just tooooo funny! That is one really big turtle! We used to see some sort of like that around here, but it was many years ago. Now that they have built 2 schools right behind our house, we don't see much wildlife!
Aire-hugs,
Poppy, Penny & Patches
That is a beutiful turtle. Wonder why they never come out to visit??
You have some EARS going on there Stan!!!
Mom is having a time trying to take my before pic. We think if we pull the hair and measure from the lip it is nearly 1/4 to 1/2". Is that the right way to measure? And we hope mom grows another hand to hold the camera with!!

What a thoughtful way arranging the Beard Competition to honor Dovah Doo, I'm in too.
Where's the turtle's head? He must have a terrible headache from your sonic bark.
I left you a message in the previous post, I'm not sure you read that.
Cheers
A turtle! I've never seen one of those before. That is just so cool! Did you touch him, or were you too scared. I would have been scared, but that is just me! He he!
Your pal,
Kirby
Did that dude ever come out to play?? seems pretty boring to me to sit inside of a box all darn day? Maybe he has some books in there? or a radio? omdog what if he has a laptop and is on TWB (turtles with blogs) talking about you RIGHT NOW?!
I can't understand why he didn't want to play with you.

Wow, Stanley and Stella!! You guys found a turtle in your own yard?? We've never seen turtle in pawson. He seems a big but quite gentleman turtle to us. :)
Momo & Pinot
Very educational. An you doggies are very brave. I never saw one of those things. Dose it have ears and a head? Did he (or she?) taste good?

I met a turtle once, too, Stan! I wanted to play with it, but The Girl put a stop to it fast...
Brown dog kisses,
Dannan
Stanley!
Man, I haven't dropped by your blog in so long! How's everything goin'? Has Stella been behaving herself like a good girl? Have YOU been behaving yourself like a good boy? I'm sure you have been.
Wow, man, you found a turtle! I've seen a couple of turtles up the hill at the pond before (they freaked me out actually, I thought they were rocks until they moved), but I've never seen a turtle in my very own backyard!
I hope you and Stella are having a grrrrEAT weekend!
Sparky
Cool find, dudes!
